WHAT IS STRUCTURAL CHIROPRACTIC?

  • Conventional vs. Structural Chiropractic
Conventional Chiropractic - Conventional chiropractic focuses on reducing spasm, increasing range of motion, and temporarily reducing pain. Chiropractors have done well under this model of symptomatic/relief care, and many of them are excellent at what they do. - At Align Chiropractic, our approach is different. We focus on NeuroStructural Correction by utilizing objective indicators to determine the presence of Structural Dysfunction. - Structural Chiropractic - If you think of the spine like a foundation of a house, you realize that weakness in the foundation can change the structure of the entire house. Walls begin to crack, doors & windows won't close properly, and floors become uneven and begin to creak. You can make cosmetic repairs, but sooner or later you'll have to address the foundation, otherwise the problems will return... - ... again... and again... and again. - And suddenly instead of achieving true correction, we're relying on chiropractic to be much more like a natural (and sometimes expensive) form of aspirin. - Get Back To Normal! - Rather than constantly repairing damage, we've chosen to focus on correcting the "underlying foundation" so that your spine reaches as much of its normal structure and function as possible. - Of course, our services aren't for everyone. However, if you are tired of constantly patching up the problem and are looking for a more long-term solution that you can both feel AND see for yourself, then Align Chiropractic may be the right place for you. - Once the foundation has been corrected, we'll guide and teach you how to keep it that way through customized recommendations designed for your particular spine and level of dysfunction.
  • What Is Structural Dysfunction?
If we were to ask you what normal blood pressure is, you might answer 120/80. Maybe you're not even sure what that means exactly, but you know there is a normal value. In healthcare, there are normal values for not just blood pressure, but many things like sight, blood sugar, heart rate, and body mass (too name a few). There will always be variations based on age or situation and no one needs to be perfect, but there are accepted ranges. - At Align Chiropractic, we recognize that the entire spine works as a functional unit but there are two primary areas that may experience the most amount of Structural Dysfunction. - - Lower Spine - The base of the spine may shift, twisting the pelvis and sacrum causing a Pelvic Displacement Complex, or Structural Dysfunction at the sacrum or sacroiliac joints. This can cause the hips to shift and produce improper alignment cascading up the spine. - Upper Spine - The area of the spine most vulnerable to Structural Dysfunction is the top of your spine at the base of the skull, or the upper cervical region. Structural Dysfunction here can cause a condition known as the Atlas Displacement Complex. This can effect the neck and upper back, cranial bone position, and brainstem function.
  • What Are Secondary Conditions?
Once structural dysfunction is present and disrupting the spinal cord and spinal nerves exiting the vertebral column, it can create many secondary conditions (or symptoms). The reason they are referred to as secondary conditions is because they are the result of a primary condition, i.e. structural dysfunction. The location of the specific dysfunctional segment and where the nerves are being disrupted and irritated will give us an idea about your secondary conditions. Some of these may include: - - ADD/ADHD Allergies Arm Pain (Upper & Lower) Arthritis Asthma Asymmetry (e.g. Low Shoulder) Bed Wetting Blood Pressure (High & Low) Bone Spurs Breech Baby Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Cervical Myelopathy Degenerative Disc Disease Degenerative Joint Disease Digestive Problems (Ex: IBS) Disc Herniation/Pinched Nerve Dizziness/Vertigo Ear Infections (Children) Fatigue (Chronic) Fevers Fibromyalgia Frequent Colds Headaches (Ex: Tension-Type) Hip Pain Infant Colic Joint Pain Leg Pain (Upper & Lower) Low Back Pain Mid-Back Pain Migraines Muscular Pain Neck Pain Numbness/Tingling (Hands & Feet) Nerve Impingement Syndrome Posture Related Issues Pregnancy Back Pain Sciatica Scoliosis Shoulder Pain Sinus Problems Sleeping Problems Strength Related Problems Tendinitis Tennis Elbow Torticollis (Infants) TMJ Syndrome Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

  • How Do I Work With Align Chiropractic?
We make it easy... - Most of our patients are referred to us by their midwives, doulas, OB's, general practitioners, family members, and/or friends. The reason is simple: we provide specific and gentle structural chiropractic care (with an enhanced expertise in pregnancy and pediatric) and we are easy to work with. - Our new patient process: - Step 1: Schedule a Complimentary Consultation (always a conversation and NEVER a commitment). - Step 2: If you feel that you may have Structural Dysfunction and would like to further investigate, then you are welcome to schedule a Complete Structural Chiropractic Examination. - Step 3: After the examination, we will schedule a conference so that we can review your results and explain our recommendations for care. After the conference, we will proceed with your first specific neurostructural corrective adjustment. Since your first corrective adjustment is a bonus, it will give you a better idea of what your care will look like and allow you to make an educated decision about your health. We truly want you to know how our treatment feels before you BEGIN a relationship with our practice. - The following day, you may receive a courtesy call from one of our doctors to see how you are doing and help to answer any questions you may have regarding your treatment plan, our office, etc. This is the only call you will receive from us and we are not looking to solicit or get you to commit to care. Your time is valuable to us and when you are ready to make a decision, whatever the case may be, our doors are always open.
